At the end of almost every project planning meeting, the same question gets asked last: "Where's the crew staying?"
It's usually treated as admin. Something for procurement or facilities to sort the week before mobilisation. Find something near the site, book the cheapest option, and move on. For most of the industry, that's the whole process.
The problem is what that process misses.
A labour market with no room for error
K construction new orders reached £71.7 billion in 2024. The sector needs an additional 41,200 workers every year through 2030 just to keep up. Over 200,000 EU workers have left UK construction since 2019, and more than a third of the current workforce is aged 50 or above.
